Get ready for Spark of Rebellion!

Here at Total Cards we love TCGs (if you didn't know already), so we were thrilled when FFG announced a new Star Wars TCG! The game is Star Wars Unlimited and the first set, Spark of Rebellion releases this week! We just can't wait!

In preparation for the release we have whipped up this blog outlining some interesting aspects of this brand-new game! Keep reading to learn all about a game of epic battles in using characters and locations from one of the most beloved franchises of all time!

Aspects

Aspects function similarly to colour in MTG and Ink in Lorcana. Each aspect represents a different style of play as well as a major theme of Star Wars. For example, Villainy is an aspect showcased with characters like Darth Vader and Grand Moff Tarkin and Heroism is associated with the likes of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. There are six aspects in total and although you aren't restricted to only using one or two, you will be penalised for using cards that don't share an aspect with your leader (you must pay 2 extra resources for each missing icon), with the rule of Aspect Penalty.

The six aspects are:

  • Vigilance
  • Command
  • Aggression
  • Cunning
  • Heroism
  • Villainy

Cards

As you would expect, there is a good variety of card types in Star Wars Unlimited. The cards we are most excited for are the Leader cards (but more on those later.) The cards only have 4 rarities at the moment; Common, Uncommon, Rare and Legendary! Commons and Uncommons come in every pack and there is one slot that could be either a Rare or Legendary card. Every card in the set can come as a normal version, foil version, special Hyperspace variant or Showcase. The foil slot can contain any rarity, so there is a chance that you could pull 2 rares or legendaries in the same pack. Every card can come as a Hyperspace variant, which gives them a special alternate frame that shows off more of the artwork! Showcase cards are special variants of Leader cards and come with unique artwork, frame and foil treatment!

Leaders

Each deck that you play will have a Leader and a Base! 18 Leaders are available in the first set and they represent some fan-favourite characters from the Original Trilogy and Rebellion era! If you're a fan of the original films then you can choose to play as the iconic Darth Vader or the heroic Luke Skywalker! Rebels and Rogue One fans will be happy at the inclusion of the likes of Hera Syndulla and Cassian Andor! Each Leader has a special ability and Epic Action that can change the outcome of the battle. All of the leaders revealed so far allow you to utilise 2 different aspects, so make sure to pay attention to this when you are constructing your deck!

The Future

Although we don't know exactly what the future will hold for the game of Star Wars Unlimited, we are certain that the game will be exploring other eras of the Star Wars universe, with the Sequel and Prequel trilogy likely being next! If you can't wait for the release of Spark of Rebellion then make sure to keep your eyes peeled for any reveals on our social media!
