Star Wars Unlimited is back with its third set, Twilight of the Republic, and it’s diving into the heart of the Clone Wars! This highly anticipated expansion brings all the iconic characters, ships, and weapons from the epic conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Separatist Confederacy. This set introduces two new exciting mechanics: Coordinate and Exploit. Coordinate lets you activate special abilities when you control three or more units. Ahsoka Tano, one of the set's new leaders, showcases this beautifully. Her deck is all about getting those units out fast. When Ahsoka's Coordinate ability is active, she can boost her attacks significantly. On the flip side, we have General Grievous leading the Separatist forces. His deck focuses on Droid units and utilizes the Exploit mechanic, allowing you to defeat your own units to reduce costs for powerful cards like the Hailfire Tank. This opens up tons of strategic possibilities, especially when you have plenty of low-cost units to sacrifice. Ahsoka Tano comes with an Aggression and Command deck. Her abilities thrive when you have multiple units on the field. The 332nd Stalwart and Coruscant Guard are great low-cost units that activate Coordinate abilities early. Plus, you can team her up with Anakin Skywalker to maximize their combined power.
Captain Rex is another standout, creating Clone Trooper tokens that help trigger Coordinate effects and swarm your opponent. Tokens in this set act like normal units but are removed from the game when defeated, adding a unique twist to your strategies.
General Grievous brings a Command and Cunning deck filled with Droid units. His abilities grant Sentinel to Droid units, making them tougher to deal with. General’s Guardian is a perfect example, generating Battle Droid tokens each time it’s attacked. These tokens are not just cannon fodder; they can be used to activate Exploit abilities, reducing the cost of powerful units like the Hailfire Tank.
The Battle Droid Escort synergizes well with Exploit, creating tokens when played and when defeated, allowing you to bring in heavy hitters for fewer resources. This sets up some interesting combos and ensures your Droid army is always growing.
Twilight of the Republic will launch with a Two-Player Starter featuring pre-built decks for Ahsoka Tano and General Grievous. These decks are ready to play right out of the box, perfect for jumping into the action immediately. With over 250 new cards, the introduction of token units, and new keywords like Coordinate and Exploit, Twilight of the Republic is set to shake up your Star Wars: Unlimited games in November. Keep an eye out for more news, previews, and spoilers as we countdown to release. Stay tuned, and may the Force be with you!
