For those of you who may have missed it, Star Wars Unlimited have implemented their April Suspension List. This means that cards they have named are suspended from competitive play. Much like any suspension/ban list, you can still play these in casual settings between friends and family, but you will not be able to participate in any competitive scenes if the cards below are in your deck list. So what cards have been suspended?
Triple Dark Raid
Triple Dark Raid was a card that let you search the top 7 cards of your deck and play a vehicle from them with a 5 cost reduction. Not only that, but at the end of the phase, it would bounce back to your hand. So players would essentially search the top 7, find a huge ship such as Devastator (JTL) and pay it active so it could attack - then Devastator (JTL) would bounce back to hand. This meant that any damage dealt to it wouldn't matter unless you could destroy it.
The card itself has seen 100% usage in Top 8 decks, and is insanely aggressive leading to dissatisfying gameplay. As this was not quite what the creators of Star Wars Unlimited envisioned, this has lead to the card being suspended.
Jango Fett (Concealing the Conspiracy)
Jango Fett was a leader that relied on damage pings and, whenever an enemy unit got pinged, the unit became exhausted (like being tapped in Magic the Gathering). This meant that when Jango Fett was deployed, you could target a number of units. This ability, combined with his 7 HP, made him incredibly difficult to deal with.
This also lead to players being able to abuse Jango Fett alongside Triple Dark Raid and War Juggernaut which pinged pretty much every enemy unit when it entered. Not to mention that as Jango Fett deployed on 5 resources and was Cunning/Villainy, which has historically a strong aspect combination, this playstyle just became heavy handed and unbeatable in many scenarios. With all this in mind, Jango Fett has been suspended.
DJ (Blatant Thief)
DJ is a rather unusual suspension to occur now, but given that DJ flew under the radar due to the now banned Boba Fett (Collecting the Bounty) it's no surprise that he's now being suspended. DJ could combo with another card called Tech, which gives your resources the Smuggle mechanic allowing you to play cards out of your resource row. As DJ steals an opponents resource when it comes into play (permanently, too) which, if you have Tech on the board, also becomes a smuggle card. Furthermore, to deny any potential DJ plays, the developers thought players were not using their resources to deal with units in play and essentially creating this weird fear tactic.
The suspension of DJ is meant more for correcting Han Solo and bring him closer to his intended power level, as well as correcting this unhealthy playing environment that was created as a by-product. To prevent banning Han Solo on top of these three cards, the creators of SWU feel that the game is healthier with rather than without Solo.
The creators also added on that they do not plan on any errata cards, as they believe that the card once pulled from the pack should play as intended. This is another contributor to the bans that were set in place this April.
What do you think of these bans? Do you agree with them? Let us know in the comments!
