Everything announced at MagicCon 2024: Magic the Gathering's

It has been quite the weekend for Magic the Gathering fans! From the return to Tarkir and Innistrad to...quite the interesting choice of Secret Lair, fans got to see the roadmap for Magic the Gathering over 2025. Let's get into it.

Innistrad Remastered

The first set to release in 2025 is Innistrad Remastered. Dropping on January 24th 2025, this set is returning to the plane of Innistrad for a reprint extravaganza. Fans can expect to see iconic characters like Liliana and Edgar Markov making an appearance, and of course there are plenty of werewolves and vampires to bolster those decks!

We've gotten a glimpse at the products and some of the cards that will be appearing, including a serialised Edgar Markov which is only available in English language Collector Boosters. This card is considered a "headliner" and is something that we will see in future sets such as Aetherdrift, but we'll get to that later.

Products to expect are the usual Play Boosters and Collector Boosters. As this is a Remastered set, we usually don't see any Commander Decks or Bundles so unfortunately there likely won't be any Gift Edition bundles for Innistrad Remastered. But not to worry, there are plenty of opportunities to grab those items from later sets in the year.

Innistrad Remastered releases on January 24th 2025, and though it is currently not available to pre-order from our site you are able to sign up for in-stock notifications to be the first to know when pre-orders are live!

Aetherdrift

Time to get behind the wheel and relive your Speedracer days with Aetherdrift, Magic the Gathering's racing-themed set! This was an interesting choice from the folks over at Wizards of the Coast, described as "a high-speed, high-stakes death race across 3 planes that brings fans a mixture of fresh new ways to explore magic while delivering on high fantasy worldbuilding you love."

Three planes have been chosen for this set to take place in, and so far we can speculate that Kaladesh is one of them from the artwork presented during the announcement. Some fans have been discussing what the other two planes could be, with theories of Zendikar, Vryn or Amonkhet. This is backed up by the creators stating that two of the featured planes have not been revisited since their debut, and one has never been featured as a premier set before. Furthermore, the MTG Wiki has listed two of the planes as Kaladesh and Amonkhet. We will likely find this information out a lot closer to the release date.

No products have been shown for this set, but as it is a main set and follows on from Duskmourn: House of Horror, we're expecting the usual Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, Commander Decks and Bundles. This set will also feature a headliner card, which will be The Aetherspark, but beyond the artwork and name, we have no idea what this card will do.

Essentially, if you love vehicles, then this is the set for you. It will be jam packed with cars, bikes and anything with two or more wheels that goes fast! We've gotten a glimpse of some of the cards to expect with the set, but we will have to wait until closer to the time to see more.

Aetherdrift releases on February 14th 2025, and what better way to spend your Valentine's Day than dominating the battlefield with Aetherdrift cards!

Tarkir Dragonstorm

For the third set of the year, we're going back to Tarkir with Tarkir Dragonstorm. Set to release on April 11th 2025, this set is bringing back Clans and Dragons. It has been noted that Dragons are already incredibly strong in the game, so it will be interesting what support they will get without making them completely overpowered or broken - but only time will tell!

We got to see artwork from this set, but nothing more. Cards had no information, but we do know that Sarkhan and Ugin are making a comeback with some pretty stunning cards in what Magic are calling the Ghostflame treatment! There are only 10 cards with this treatment in the whole set. It'll be interesting to see how the foiling will look on these cards to make them stand out.

Tarkir Dragonstorm is also a mainline Standard set following on from Aetherdrift, so expect all the same products. Unfortunately, that's all we know currently about Tarkir Dragonstorm, other than it's meant to combine the best features of Khans of Tarkir and Dragons of Tarkir as a "best of both worlds" solution to the fan reception of the original block.

Tarkir Dragonstorm releases on April 11th 2025.

Universes Beyond: Final Fantasy

The beloved RPG Final Fantasy is coming to Magic the Gathering in the first Universes Beyond set of 2025! Of course, this set is expected to feature the likes of Lightning, Sephiroth and Cloud as well as a range of weapons and other characters from Final Fantasy all the way to Final Fantasy XVI.

Little is known about the set, other than the artwork will feature entries from both Magic artists and Final Fantasy artists, and it is considered a tentpole set in an effort to make legality easier to understand. Final Fantasy will be legal in all formats.

Universes Beyond: Final Fantasy will be released on June 13th 2025.

Edge of Eternities

We're blasting off to space with 2025's fifth set to release in Edge of Eternities. Think Unfinity, but...better! Again, very little is known about this set at the moment due to it releasing mid-way through next year. But, despite it being set in space and inspired by space operas, WOTC stress that it very much science fantasy.

There is one familiar face in this set, Tezzeret. Fans seemed pretty hyped to see his face turn up, so we can't wait to see what insane things his card will do!

Edge of Eternities will also receive a headliner card. We know nothing about this card other than a sneak peek alongside The Aetherspark, and even then they are merely test cards therefore the finished design could look totalldifferent. One fan has seemed to decipher one of the cards in this photo as "Sothera, the Supervoid" as a 2 Colourless 2 Black Legendary Artifact Planeswalker, so perhaps WOTC should have kept that one under wraps for now!

Edge of Eternities will release on August 1st 2025.

Universes Beyond: Marvel's Spider-Man

Of course, we already knew about Universes Beyond: Marvel's Spider-Man last week as it was revealed at New York Comic Con, and unfortunately they have not revealed anything more for us to sink our teeth into.

If you want to know about Marvel's Spider-Man, read our blog dedicated to this set for more info! But to give a rundown of what this set is about, it's themed more around the comics than it is around the MCU or the video games, so don't expect to see Tom Holland showing up. There will be booster boxes and packs, as well as Commander Decks which we speculated would be lead by Spider-Man, Green Goblin, Doc Ock and Miles Morales.

Universes Beyond: Marvel's Spider-Man releases in 2025 on an undisclosed date, but as we're getting into the year at this point we're expecting September.

Honourable Mentions

That was about it for the set reveals for 2025, however there were some honourable mentions that we must note.

Unnamed Universes Beyond

We'll be getting a third Universes Beyond set next year! It's unknown as to what this will feature, as WOTC seem to be keeping this under wraps for now. This will likely release in Q4 (October-December). Hopefully, the reason for keeping this a secret is because it's going to be something pretty epic.

Spongebob Squarepants x Secret Lair

Yep...you read that right. We're getting a Spongebob Squarepants x Secret Lair drop in 2025. It's an...interesting choice to go with, and there have been some very mixed reactions regarding the drop. Some fans see the humour in this, wanting to see a Patrick Starr or Plankton Commander in play. Other fans are relatively disappointed, stating that it feels to be quite a silly set that they aren't impressed with, especially off the back of some great drops this year such as Dungeons & Dragons x Secret Lair, or Marvel x Secret Lair being announced. We'll have to wait and see what to expect with this drop.

Magic the Gathering Foundations Reveals

We've started to see more and more cards come through for the MTG Foundations reveals. This set releases on November 15th 2024, and will host a slew of staple cards that every player should consider. We've been shown the new Japanese Showcase cards featuring anime-style artwork, and they do look truly stunning.

If you want to read more on this, head over to our blog where we cover all the spoilers!

That's about it for everything that was revealed at the Magic the Gathering showcase during Las Vegas Con! If anything more is revealed, we will be updating this blog appropriately. Keep an eye out for those Innistrad Remastered pre-orders, and here's to next year's releases!
