Everything Announced at MagicCon 2025: Tarkir Dragonstorm, Edge of Eternities and more!
It feels like not to long ago, we were writing about Magic the Gathering's Next Era in 2024 - and here we are once again! MagicCon 2025 happened over the weekend, and with it comes a slew of reveals that will get you excited for the year ahead. We've literally just had the Final Fantasy announcement, but before you gear up your Chocobos and head out to the battlefield you need to get prepared for the return to Tarkir!
Tarkir: Dragonstorm
It's been around 10 years since we last visited Tarkir in its very own set, which feels insane when you think that was only 2015! Where on earth have the years gone?! Tarkir's return was teased in 2023 during the Announcement Day panel at Gen Con Indiana, and we got more of an in-depth look at MagicCon last year in which we reported what we knew then: It features Dragons, Clans and the best of Khans of Tarkir and Dragons of Tarkir.
But as of February 21st 2025, we have officially gotten a good look at some cards to expect, the Headliner card, the products and more! Let's get into it:
The old clans have been remade out of the ashes of the past. We welcome back Abzan (), Jeskai (
), Sultai(
), Mardu (
) and Temur (
). Each clan has a focus on specific Colors, and this set is truly a throwback set for fans of Magic the Gathering who can pick up any of the 5 available Commander Decks! As you can imagine, these reflect the 5 clans; Temur Roar, Jeskai Striker, Abzan Armor, Mardu Surge, and Sultai Arisen. If you're wanting to grab all 5, you can pick up our Commander Deck Bundle when pre-orders go live! Oh, and we should also mention that much like the era of Streets of New Capenna, the pre-release kits are themed around the Clans!
The headliner card from this set is Mox Jasper, a 0 cost Legendary Artifact which - when tapped - gives you one mana of any color. It can also only be activated if you control a Dragon. It's certainly not a "wow" card that would blow everyone away, but at 0 cost it's an incredibly playable card for those with Dragon decks. The serialised version is a Serialised Double Rainbow Foil in a Retro Frame - limited to 500. The headliner, as usual, can be found in Collector Boosters of Tarkir: Dragonstorm.
Card treatments with this set are truly stunning, with special Dragon-style borders and the return of the Halo Foil treatment! The latter debuted in March of the Machine, and has made a glorious return in the Halo Ghostfire cards for Tarkir: Dragonstorm. You can find Traditional Foil and Halo Foil ghostfire cards in Collector Boosters only - but they make that premium price point worth it if foiling is what you're passionate about!
There's so much more we could talk about right now, but for the time being - why not check out the card spoilers down below? Tarkir: Dragonstorm is available to pre-order right now and releases on the 11th of April 2025.
Edge of Eternities
We got another sneak peek of this spicy Space Opera themed set releasing in July. Edge of Eternities was previously revealed in October last year with some stunning artwork and a familiar face. But as of this weekend, we've gotten a good look at the product packaging, as well as the Land artwork that is heavily outer-space inspired. Though not much else is known (they really are keeping it under wraps!) we do at least know what the Commander Deck colours are!
Counter Intelligence () is a Blue, Red and White deck that seems to be a proliferate deck at the very least, which boosts artifacts. Alongside that comes World Shaper (
) a Black, Red and Green deck that sacrifices lands - we assume to "shape worlds". It's going to be really interesting to see what cards are featured within these decks!
Though the products are not currently available for pre-order, you can sign up your email so you get notified as soon as they drop! Edge of Eternities releases on the 1st of August.
Universes Beyond: Avatar the Last Airbender
Now this was a set that came right out of left field, we were certainly not expecting to see the iconic Avatar the Last Airbender make its way into Magic the Gathering! It's only fitting, given the announcement of Avatar: Seven Havens and the ATLA movie due to come out. Move over Tezzeret and Sarkhan, we're getting Appa in Magic the Gathering!
All that was revealed about this set was...well, that the set was coming to MTG. We got a short trailer, and that was all, which really has us on the edge of our seats. Speculation is going mad, and of course, there are so many iconic characters and moments that could be littered throughout!
We'd love to see this set get Commander Decks, Play Boosters and Collector Boosters - at least so that we can see the powerful Azula be an insane Commander. Other characters we'd peg as Commanders would be Aang, Toph, and Zuko - though it would be super cool to see Sokka and the Kyoshi Warriors in a deck by themselves. Either way, we are geared up for this release! There is an unannounced Universes Beyond set which is yet to be confirmed as ATLA, but given that it's releasing in Q4 2025 we can safely assume they are one in the same. Which means that ATLA could get the works!
It's going to be really interesting to see how Bending the Elements works with this set, and how powerful Aang will be...given that he's the Avatar! Not only that, but imagine using Toph's Seismic Sense to scry your deck - or a Counterspell card named "There is no war in Ba Sing Se". There are so many possibilities!
Universes Beyond: Avatar the Last Airbender will release on the 21st of November, and whilst products aren't available just yet we definitely recommend keeping that all important eye out!
