Reign of Jafar has been revealed for Disney Lorcana!

Hot off the heels of the first ever Disney Lorcana ban comes the announcement of Set 8! Reign of Jafar was revealed back in January alongside Archazia's Island, though not much was said about what to expect. We're pleased to say that as of today (09/04/2025) Reign of Jafar will be releasing everywhere on the 6th of June!

The product line has been shown off, introducing freshly updated accessories, stunning pack artwork, and a brand new Illumineer's Quest. Let's get into the products:

Single Player Decks

Of course, as with every set, we're getting new decks. Two as per usual, the inks for the decks in Reign of Jafar are Amber/Amethyst and Ruby/Steel. The former features Princess Tiana and Bruno Madrigal, and the latter features Stitch and Mulan.

Without seeing the cards, we can only speculate how these decks will play. It's definitely an interesting choice of Ink types, as Amber/Amethyst is really focused on being hyper aggro - meaning the player is going to race their opponent to 20 Lore and try to do it as soon as possible. However, Ruby/Steel is more of a wildcard and is an archetype that Lorcana have been trying to make work. Essentially, Ruby/Steel focuses less on gaining Lore traditionally and more on Challenges. Cards will be used to challenge, and banishing your opponent's cards result in a trigger i.e. healing or Lore gain. It'll be interesting to see how these decks play out!

Illumineer's Quest: Palace Heist

Continuing with the highly popular Illumineer's Quest but with a twist, Reign of Jafar transports players to his palace to partake in the heist of the century! The plot of this Illumineer's Quest is players must sneak into Jafar's Palace and seize the Hexwell Crown - you can team up with friends or play alone. This time around, the Illumineer's Quest feels a lot more board-game orientated, which makes for a fun game night with friends and family. The official description is as follows:

Having reforged the broken Hexwell Crown, Jafar has transformed into the formidable supreme sorcerer of Lorcana. It’s now up to players to sneak into his stronghold and steal back the reforged crown before he becomes all-powerful.

In this game of keep-away, a ruthless underling or item from Jafar’s deck is all he needs to seize the crown. But make it through the traps and obstacles he’s set up, and players will recapture this source of power.

Whether players go after the crown on their own or team up with a friends, the two player decks are designed with characters, items, and more that will help them on their daring quest. Plus, with four battlegrounds to choose from, players can determine the difficulty that’s right for them.

The box includes these items, similar to the last but including the new deck boxes plus a Reforged Crown tile.

  • 1 Oversized Jafar card
  • 1 Jafar scenario deck (50 cards) with storage box
  • 2 Player decks (60 cards each) with storage boxes
  • 2 Oversized, double-sided battleground cards
  • 1 Palace Heist playmat
  • 1 Reforged Crown tile
  • 1 Jafar draw token
  • 5 Lore tracker tokens
  • 29 Damage counters
  • 1 Secret victory card
  • 1 Palace Heist rules sheet

Other Products

Of course, there will be the usual additions with each set. You can expect to be able to pick up Booster Boxes, Booster Packs, Sleeved Boosters, an Illumineer's Trove, Playmats, Sleeves and Deckboxes. No gift set this time around, but given that Deep Trouble was the gift set for Ursula's Return, we're not surprised that the Palace Heist is filling in that role for Reign of Jafar.

Though products aren't available to pre-order just yet, be sure to sign up to the products you want for notifications - that way you're kept in the loop when things go live! You can also keep checking back to this blog for when card reveals begin, or any set updates occur. Reign of Jafar releases in Local Game Stores on the 30th of May and worldwide on the 6th of June.
