Original 24/06/2025:

Hot on the heels of the Japanese Mega Brave/Mega Symphonia announcement, TCPi have officially announced the English counterpart - named Mega Evolution. This set is releasing in September, and will be made up of cards from the Japanese sets mentioned in our blog from yesterday (which you can read here!)

What we know so far is that Mega Evolution will feature 132 cards before secret rares, which includes the 126 cards from the Japanese sets alongside cards from elsewhere. We already saw Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex from the announcement back in February, where we were told about the return of Mega Evolutions. With the official announcement of Mega Evolution we've been treated to 4 new English reveals in full; Mega Venusaur ex, Mega Latias ex, Lillie's Determination and Wally's Compassion. We also got a glimpse at some other cards shown in the trailer, which we'll add below; Latios; Hariyama; Pachirisu; Bulbasaur SIR; Vulpix SIR; Inteleon SIR; Rare Candy full art; and Night Stretcher full art.

If you saw our blog yesterday, you'll know that with this upcoming set Pokemon are introducing full arts for Item cards - starting with Night Stretcher and Rare Candy. Not only that, but we also know how the Mega Evolutions will work and how they differ from the 2016 era.

XY Mega Evolutions vs 2025 Mega Evolutions

Back in 2016, Mega Evolutions were part of the XY sets - featuring the likes of M Venusaur-EX, M Blastoise-EX and M Charizard-EX. The way these cards worked was you Mega Evolved from Venusaur-EX (classed as the Basic stage) into M Venusaur-EX (Stage 1 equivalent), without the need to start at Bulbasaur. Think like you would in the video game, where your Pokemon would be infused with Mega Energy and transform.

When it comes to Mega Evolutions in this upcoming set, it's a little different. You do need to evolve from the Basic Pokemon at the start of the evolution chain. If you want to pull out your Mega Gardevoir ex, you need to first evolve up from Ralts and Kirlia. Mega Evolved Pokemon also reward 3 prize cards if knocked out, as opposed to the 2 you would get in 2016.

Product Lineup

We haven't received an official product lineup at this moment in time, but we assume that this will be the beginning of a new era and will be classed as the Base Set. As that makes this a core set, we can expect to see Booster Boxes, Elite Trainer Boxes, Sleeved Boosters, Premium Checklane Blisters, Standard Checklane Blisters, 3-Pack Blisters, Booster Bundles and Build & Battle Kits (that double as pre-release kits.) It'll be interesting if they add anything new to the product lineup with the new era! Keep an eye on this space for the moment the products are available for sign-ups.

That's all we know for now on Mega Evolution. For any updates, check back here regularly and keep an eye on our social media. In the meantime, you can check out the card list in the gallery below! Mega Evolution releases on the 26th of September 2025.
