How to identify Lorcana Card Rarities!

Disney Lorcana launched back in August 2023 and is already approaching its 5th set Shimmering Skies, but with so many sets and added game elements, it can be daunting for new players to start learning the fundamentals of the game. One thing that throws newcomers off guard are the rarites and how to know whether you've got a good card! Let's have a close look at Lorcana card rarities and how to identify them.

Card rarities for Lorcana are very simple to understand and are all based on symbols which can be found on the bottom of the card. As cards get rarer, the shape gets more complicated and also progressively more vivid and colourful. Check out what these symbols look like in the images below!

Common - Grey Circle

Common cards are the lowest rarity available and so are lower in power compared to other cards. They have simple to understand card mechanics and form the base of any deck!

Uncommon - White book

The next rarity after Common is unsuprisingly Uncommon. This rarity is represented by a white book and are slightly rarer with only 53 of them being available to collect for the First Chapter. These cards take the play a notch further by introducing a level of strategy to the game; using keywords and special effects. These card types tend to help define your deck's playstyle, something you can read about in our How to Play Lorcana blog.

Rare - Bronze Triangle

A step up from Uncommon cards are Rare cards. This is where cards really start to get powerful and tend to feature more heroes and villains as well as their signature songs. Monetarily these cards also cost a bit more than the previous cards so if you pull a few spares from your booster packs then it might be worth keeping hold of them!

Super Rare - Silver Diamond

These Super Rares (as the name suggests) and SUPER RARE with a very limited number of these cards being included in sets. Super Rares are even more powerful than previous card rarities, including potential win conditions if played effectively.

Legendary - Golden Pentagon

The Legendary card rarity is one of the scarcest in the game, being incredibly powerful and valuable. Legendary cards are great for competitive players as having one in your deck gives you the edge over your opponent!

Enchanted - Multicoloured Hexagon

There's a reason we said Legendary cards were one of the rarest cards in the game as Enchanted cards are incredibly hard to pull - and expensive! They have a shimmering foil pattern (ink wash) to them which other cards don't and have their own unique art that is a cut above the rest! Even thought these cards look great they do have the same stats and rules as their original cards, so these cards are primarily for collectors. As of the first set, the estimated pull rates for these cards were 1 in every 96 packs, with prices going upwards of £100!

All Lorcana cards can come as foil and non foil, so the rarity doesn't really effect whether the card will be shiny or not, with the exception of the Enchanted rares. Enchanted rares are incredibly rare and only come in a foil version. The pattern has a smoke-on-water look to it making it stand out against other card games' rarest foils.

As for the future of Lorcana, we hope to see more rarities added in sets. Perhaps they could take a more obvious approach with their rarities like Magic: the Gathering, with its Prosperity cards in Outlaws of Thunder Junction, or even add another layer of Disney magic to cards like with Star Wars Unlimited's Hyperspace rares! Let us know in the comments what rarities you want to see in future Lorcana sets and don't forget to grab some Lorcana cards for yourself on our site.
