UPDATE 19/08/2024
We've had a ton of brand new cards revealed for the mobile game Pokemon Pocket and finally a release date! Pokemon Pocket is officially releasing 30th October and was shown off at a demo booth at the Pokemon Worlds Championship 2024 as well as a brand new trailer featuring some new cards. The most important card that left fans shocked was the tease of a new Mewto card at the end of the trailer! You can find all of these revealed cards at the bottom of this blog and can watch the trailer here!

Pokemon celebrated it's 28th anniversary in February with a Pokemon Presents- and it did not disappoint! We got a ton of really cool reveals including a brand new video game called Pokemon Legends: Z-A but the one reveal that we are all excited for was Pokemon Pocket! This new mobile app brings your favourite cards to life (quite literally) with special immersive cards that allow players to leap into Pokemon cards.
It's not just about collecting shiny Pokemon cards however as you can also play the Pokemon TCG within this new app. Pokemon Pocket is "free-to-start" which makes it an affordable option for those who don't want to splash the cash on a Pokemon booster box or packs. But don't worry as the original TCG is going nowhere anytime soon, so this new way to play could been seen as a way for newcomers to learn about the game. Even though it is free-to-play however players do have the option of buying virtual packs, as players only get 2 free Pokemon booster packs of cards each day.
From our first look in the trailer, the game is sticking faithfully to the look of the Pokemon TCG with the board being clear to read and easy to understand. Playing on your phone means that every win will feel much more satisfying with animations for damage dealt and more!
Players do already have an online version of the TCG which has been around since 2011, a site that is still active now and keeps up to date with the latest expansions. You can practice online with other players in real time but with such a huge following, will Pokemon Pocket be able to convince fans to jump ship and use this new mobile version. We asked our resident Pokemon expert and bulk submissions team member Joe his thoughts on this new game.
"I'm a competitive circuit player - Pocket is not for me. Pocket seems to be aimed at collectors (since the concept is mainly for an online collection), with a very different version of the TCG built in (possibly to bridge the gap between collectors and players). I care about being able to test for events, not about having a collection."
As we've already said, this way to play is very accessible, being able to have the game on you whenever and wherever you like. We saw success with this way back in 2016 in Pokemon GO!, a game where players could collect and battle Pokemon in an AR environment. It was great to be able to see Pokemon in such a fun interactive way so we can only hope that Pokemon Pocket can follow through with the same amount of pure delight that only Pokemon can bring!
There no official release date just yet, however Pokemon Pocket will be releasing for iOS and Android phones at some point during 2024.
