Pitch Black Release Date & Prereleases
Pitch Black released on July 17, 2026, with in-store prerelease events running from July 4th through July 12th. It's the fifth set in the English Mega Evolution block, following on from the sets that introduced Mega Evolution ex Pokémon to the Pokémon TCG in 2026.
Pitch Black Set Overview
Pitch Black is based on Japan's Abyss Eye expansion and puts the spotlight on darker, more mysterious Pokémon, with Mega Darkrai ex as the set's headline chase card. The English release adds three cards that weren't part of the Japanese set: Mega Slowbro ex and Jett (originally February 2026 Gym promos) and Mega Delphox ex (originally a May 2026 Gym promo). Interestingly, Grisham — another May Gym promo — didn't make the cut despite Mega Delphox ex being included.
A few other notable changes from the Japanese base set: Zarude's Illustration Rare was pulled from the main set and turned into the set's Elite Trainer Box promo instead, and Miraidon, Koraidon, and Zarude all had their rarities adjusted to Holo Rare. At 120 cards, Pitch Black is the smallest set in the Mega Evolution block so far — Creatures has stopped releasing Japanese subsets for now, so each English set maps to a single Japanese set, and ongoing Pokémon TCG print shortages may also be a factor in the smaller card count.

Pitch Black Store Promos
Three store promo cards are available with Pitch Black: Primarina, Zarude, and Armarouge. As with previous promos, you'll need to spend $15 or more on Pokémon TCG products at participating retailers (including their websites) to receive one.
Primarina is available at Hot Topic, Barnes & Noble, and BoxLunch; Zarude is available at GameStop (and EB Games in Canada and Australia); and Armarouge is available at Best Buy (and JB Hi-Fi in New Zealand). This round of promos features the 30th anniversary "What's Your Favorite?" stamp instead of a store-specific or Pitch Black stamp, and all three are printed on cosmos holofoil paper.

Looking ahead on the Pokémon TCG release schedule: Storm Emeralda (starring Mega Rayquaza ex) and three MEGA Starter Set ex Decks (Eevee ex, Zoroark ex, and Meowscarada ex) arrive July 31st, followed by the global launch of 30th Celebration on September 16th, nine 30th Celebration Card Sets on October 16th, a Special Deck Set featuring Mega Feraligatr ex, Mega Dragonite ex, and Mega Gengar ex on November 13th, and Aura Seeker (starring Mega Lucario Z ex) on November 27th.
