Everything announced on Pokemon Day 2024!
Happy Pokemon Day!
As of 2pm GMT, the Pokemon Company has dropped a slew of announcements to celebrate 28 years of this beloved series! We tuned in to see what was coming our way, and we've summed up everything right here for those who were unable to watch! The live stream was only around 12 minutes, compared to 25 minutes in 2023, but that doesn't mean we aren't still excited! Let's get straight into what was announced:
Pokemon Legends: Z-A
We had a strong feeling a new Legends game was going to be announced, and we were right! Pokemon Legends: Z-A was announced at the very end of the stream and, compared to its predecessor Pokemon Legends: Arceus, it had an incredibly futuristic look. Linking players back to Kalos, this latest game is looking to be a continuation of the storyline from X & Y. We'll be launched into Lumiose City when Z-A releases in 2025, and we're fully expecting Zygarde to be a huge feature throughout (predominantly because of the Zygarde-themed logo). We're hoping the game features similar mechanics to Pokemon Legends: Arceus which made the latter stand out against the sea of Pokemon games out there, with live capture mechanics and a unique take on the battling system. We'll have to wait until 2025 to see what's in store!
Pokemon TCG: Pocket
Immersive cards, trading on-the-go and quick, streamlined battles...what's not to love? Pokemon Trading Card Game: Pocket is a new way to experience this beloved TCG in virtual form. This looks to be an app for everyone, not just those who like to challenge each other to a battle, as collecting and trading seems to be a big feature within this mobile app. The biggest feature standing out to us was the immersive cards, where you can delve deeper into the artwork of your favourite cards and appreciate their beauty on another level! Not only that, but you will get two packs per day for free to open! This looks like a great game for those who are wanting to get started in the TCG, or have a fresher way of collecting! The app is set to release later in 2024 on iOS and Android devices.
Other Notable Mentions:
- Pokemon GO Collaboration: Pokemon GO is collaborating with the latest series Pokemon Horizons, where you can pick up Charcadet, Armarouge and Ceruledge! Not only that, but keep an eye out for Pikachu wearing Cap's Hat, a costumed Pokemon that will appear during the event! This is set to kick off on the 5th of March!
- Scarlet & Violet Tera Raids: Starting tomorrow, you can participate in Tera raids to be in with a chance of catching one of the three final Generation 1 evolutions; Charizard, Venusaur or Blastoise! They will be on separate days, so be sure to mark your calendar!
