Everything Announced during Pokemon Presents on Pokemon Day 2025!
Update 27/02/2025 14:00
The 29th Anniversary of Pokemon was summarised in a Pokemon Presents at 14:00 GMT, and fans were hoping for a lot of announcements that just didn't seem to come. On one hand, we're expecting something much bigger for the 30th Anniversary of Pokemon next year, but on the other hand a lot of these reveals are taking place later in the year - so it's likely we will hear much more about them in the coming months.
Firstly, there were the smaller announcements. These included things such as Pokemon GO receiving the "Tour Unova Global" from the 1st of March to the 2nd of March, where you can find Black Kyurem and White Kyurem showing up in the hit mobile game. Not only that, but you'll be able to grab yourself a Victini and Shiny Meleotta during that time period!
Next up were announcements for Pokemon Unite, Pokemon Cafe Remix, and Pokemon Sleep. They seemed to be smaller, generic updates that will give you free items today to celebrate the anniversary, though the more interesting addition was Cresselia and Darkrai making their way to Pokemon Sleep.
Pokemon Pocket is receiving a new set too, named Triumphant Light which seems to feature Arceus. But new set aside, Pokemon Pocket will be seeing Ranked Play coming to the game at the end of March - so you best get your best decks ready!
There was a small announcement for a new game, which at first it looked as if to be an announcement for the Classic Collection of games - but we just weren't that lucky this year! Instead, say hello to Pokemon Champions. This game will release on Nintendo Switch as well as iOS/Android devices and seems to be similar to Pokemon Stadium - a stadium-based Battle game. However, it seems you will be able to bring Pokemon from Scarlet & Violet as well as Pokemon Go with you to Pokemon Champions! You need to be able to use Pokemon Home to do this, and there is no information about launch dates - but it'll be interesting to see how this game pans out.
We also got a teaser for something very exciting making its way to the Pokemon TCG. Later this year, we're welcoming back Mega Evolutions! All that was shown were two cards; Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex. But needless to say, this is probably what got the most hype today. Little else was shown, but we will definitely be updating everyone when we get more information!
Finally, and arguably the biggest announcement, was the Pokemon Legends Z-A update. Firstly, Legends ZA will be available in Latin American Spanish (as will future games) which is a big win for fans in Latin American countries. But going into the reveals, we learned that our city location is Lumiose City which is going through a huge high-tech redevelopment plan. One can only speculate how this plays into the plot, but we know it'll be important. Once you arrive in Lumiose City, you will choose from your starters which are Totodile, Chikorita and Tepig - as well as being introduced to your friend and a slew of other characters.
Two important features to discuss are Wild Zones and Mega Evolutions. Wild Zones are areas within the city where wild Pokemon thrive, and you can go to catch them. This introduces us to our new Battle system, where your moves and choices will have more of an effect on the outcome. Dodge by leading your Pokemon out of the way from incoming attacks, and make sure you are close enough for your retaliation to reach. Yep, that's right! You need to take into account how far away you are from your opponent to make sure your attack hits. How very Dungeons & Dragons! With that, we also see Mega Evolutions introduced. Use your keystone to transform your Pokemon and unlock a new level of power. The keystone seems to function similarly to the Tera Orb in Scarlet & Violet, but only time will tell! Pokemon Legends Z-A will arrive in late 2025, so we have a bit of time to wait.
That was about everything that was revealed during the Pokemon Presents, but that doesn't mean the fun is over! Keep checking back to see if anything else was dropped by the Pokemon Company over the rest of the day, and have a great Pokemon Day!
