Top 10 cards in Phyrexia All Will Be One!
The Dominaria saga continues with the epic Phyrexia set! Continuing where Dominaria United and the Brothers' War left off, this expansion continues to explore the fate of Dominaria and has high stakes for any mtg fan! We recently opened up a ton of Set Boosters and Collector Boosters (check out the videos on our YouTube channel), so we got very close and personal with the many horrors that this latest set has to offer! We have picked out 10 cards that we think stand out from the rest. Compiling this list was no easy task, as the set is filled to the brim with a ton of epic cards! Check out out picks below! Do you you agree?
Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines
Legendary Creature — Phyrexian Praetor
Vigilance
If a permanent entering the battlefield causes a triggered ability of a permanent you control to trigger, that ability triggers an additional time.
Permanents entering the battlefield don’t cause abilities of permanents your opponents control to trigger.
4/7
A review of this set just wouldn't be compleat (see what I did there?) without discussing Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines! This is an absolute unit of a card that shuts down your opponents whilst give your cards an extra trigger, and the only downside is that your opponents will look to get rd of it as soon as possible, We're sure that this card will become an annoyance for anyone facing down an ETB deck!
The Eternal Wanderer
Legendary Planeswalker
No more than one creature can attack The Eternal Wanderer each combat.
+1: Exile up to one target artifact or creature. Return that card to the battlefield under its owner’s control at the beginning of that player’s next end step.
0: Create a 2/2 white Samurai creature token with double strike.
−4: For each player, choose a creature that player controls. Each player sacrifices all creatures they control not chosen this way.
Loyalty: 5
The Eternal Wanderer is an absolute powerhouse of a card and has the potential to be massive annoyance for your opponents, I has a good level of removal with it's -4 loyalty ability and plays extremely well with Elesh Norn and ETB decks. It also has a level of protection from attacks, which will keep it play just a little longer!
Phyrexian Vindicator
Creature — Phyrexian Horror
Flying
If damage would be dealt to Phyrexian Vindicator, prevent that damage. When damage is prevented this way, Phyrexian Vindicator deals that much damage to any other target.
5/5
Phyrexian Vindicator strength lies in it's awesome ability. Not only can it protect itself from damage, it can also pass that damage on whichever targets you choose. We expect that it will see a huge amount of play across all formats.
White Sun's Twilight
Sorcery
You gain X life. Create X 1/1 colorless Phyrexian Mite artifact creature tokens with toxic 1 and “This creature can’t block.” If X is 5 or more, destroy all other creatures. (Players dealt combat damage by a creature with toxic 1 also get a poison counter.)
This card takes full advantage of the new Toxic mechanic and lends you a good number of tokens that can inflict poison counters. The real threat of this card comes to the forefront when you can amass more than 7 mana, wiping out the board and setting yourself up to take out an opponent with a flurry of poison counters. This could be especially dangerous in Commander, where huge ammounts of mana are super common.
Ichormoon Gauntlet
Artifact
Planeswalkers you control have “[0]: Proliferate” and “[-12]: Take an extra turn after this one.”
Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, choose a counter on target permanent. Put an additional counter of that kind on that permanent.
Ichormoon Gauntlet will be automatically added to many Planeswalker decks, as it adds a great collection of effects that boosts the number if counters you have and will grant you an additional turn if you can get the mana (which won't be a problem at all for Commander players).
Phyrexian Arena
Enchantment
At the beginning of your upkeep, you draw a card and you lose 1 life.
Phyrexian Arena is a very welcome reprint that should be a staple in almost all Black decks. The loss of life means little to a Black player but the extra card will be greatly appreciated.
Vraska, Betrayal's Sting
Legendary Planeswalker — Vraska
Compleated ({B/P} can be paid with {B} or 2 life. If life was paid, this planeswalker enters with two fewer loyalty counters.)
0: You draw a card and you lose 1 life. Proliferate.
−2: Target creature becomes a Treasure artifact with “{T}, Sacrifice this artifact: Add one mana of any color” and loses all other card types and abilities.
−9: If target player has fewer than nine poison counters, they get a number of poison counters equal to the difference.
Loyalty: 6
One of the new Compleated planeswalkers, Vraska has the awesome ability to rack up Loyalty quickly with proliferate and take out creatures by turning them into treasure tokens. In addition, the ultimate here is basically an insta-kill button for most opponents.
All Will Be One
Enchantment
Whenever you put one or more counters on a permanent or player, All Will Be One deals that much damage to target opponent, creature an opponent controls, or planeswalker an opponent controls.
This list wouldn't be compleat (hey, look! I did it again!) with All Will Be One! Named after the set itself, the card has a great opportunity to dish out a ton of damage. The effect becomes even more fun when you consider the sheer number of cards in this set that deal Poison counters.
Nissa, Ascended Animist
Legendary Planeswalker — Nissa
Compleated ({G/P} can be paid with {G} or 2 life. For each {G/P} paid with life, this planeswalker enters with two fewer loyalty counters.)
+1: Create an X/X green Phyrexian Horror creature token, where X is Nissa, Ascended Animist’s loyalty.
−1: Destroy target artifact or enchantment.
−7: Until end of turn, creatures you control get +1/+1 for each Forest you control and gain trample.
Loyalty: 7
Nissa is another compleated planeswalker and certainly promises a lot of damage. The ultimate ability is the one to look out for, especially in landfall decks, where the number of forests is high! We definitely expect Nissa to show up a lot in Standard!
Sword of Forge and Frontier
Artifact — Equipment
Equipped creature gets +2/+2 and has protection from red and from green.
Whenever equipped creature deals combat damage to a player, exile the top two cards of your library. You may play those cards this turn. You may play an additional land this turn.
Equip {2}
This awesome artifact really comes in handy with its ability to play an additional land and being able to play the top 2 cards from your library, the bonuses and protection are just welcome extras!
