A Closer Look at MTG's The Lost Caverns of Ixalan
With the release of The Lost Caverns of Ixalan on the horizon, we're taking a closer look at what to expect upon our return to the untamed jungles. Taking place a year after the events of March of the Machine, this set is packed full with pirates and dinosaurs. Heavily inspired by Mesoamerica, we can expect to see some super interesting card designs throughout the Lost Caverns of Ixalan. Not only that, but we're also getting a glimpse of iconic characters from the beloved Jurassic Park and its successor Jurassic World. But that's enough about the themes of this set, we're going to take a look at the more important aspect - the cards. Let's jump into it!
Full-Art Core of Paradise Lands
The folks over at Wizards of the Coast have really gone all out with this set. If there's one thing we love, it's full art lands - and boy does WOTC deliver. The stunning Full-Art Core of Paradise Lands show off not only the beauty of Ixalan itself, but the skills of the artists involved. These artworks can be appreciated in all of their glory in both foil and non-foil treatment, with artists such as Olga Tereshenko and Matteo Bassini making comebacks with their classic styles seen throughout sets such as Wilds of Eldraine and Streets of New Capenna. Take a look at these cards below!
Oltec Cards
If you've ever seen the classic film The Road to El Dorado, you'll recognise this style. These Mesoamerican-inspired cards are bursting with colour and cultural-influence! We're hoping to see quite a few cards in this style, as they're incredibly eye-catching. With bold patterns and stunning colours, these cards will make you stand out from the crowd at your next Friday Night Magic!
Welcome to Jurassic Park!
Compsognathus, Velociraptors, Gigantosaurus - oh my! If you love dinosaurs, or are a huge fan of Jurassic Park, then this set is for you! Find your favourite moments from the Jurassic movies, including some of your favourite characters such as Ellie and Alan, Ian Malcolm, and Blue! These cards are easily indicated by their REX set code in the bottom left corner. There are 26 total REX cards within The Lost Caverns of Ixalan, with 20 being mechanically new designs and 6 lands! Check out the cards we're most excited for, releasing soon!
Enter the Depths
Deep within the underworld of Ixalan lie living legends. Each of these mythical beings are represented in mural-style artworks and found amongst Draft Boosters, Set Boosters and Collector Boosters. There's a vast array of these showcase cards, each distinctive with their framing and aged-style colouring. Check out the Mycotyrant, WOTC's first reveal, down below:
