Valentines Day Board Game Guide!

We stock a huge selection of board games here at Total Cards, but sometimes is difficult to pick a board game that is right for you and your group. Valentines Day is coming up soon and we are sure that there are some geeky couples out there that love to sit down and play some epic board games! The main problem that players face when searching for two player games is that often single player or 2 player gameplay is an afterthought and the game itself is better played with a greater number of players. That's why we have searched for some games that have been designed specifically with 2 players in mind! These games remove any problems that come with scaling down a game intended for more players and embraces the unique strengths that occur in 2-player gameplay, such as an increased sense of aggressiveness (when you only have 1 opponent, it removes the choice of targets.) Check out our top 5 choices for 2 players down below!

7 Wonders Duel
7 Wonders is an awesome game that has won a ton of awards and spawned tons of spin offs. One of these spin-offs in 7 Wonders Duel, which we would recommend for those looking for a great 2 player game! Duel is specifically designed for 2 players, so hasn't got any of the downfalls that other board games fall into when offering a two-player option! The game has become a modern favourite for many board gamers and is a solid choice for any couple looking to add a new box to their game shelves.

Patchwork
In Patchwork, two players compete to build the most aesthetic (and high-scoring) patchwork quilt on a personal 9x9 game board! This is a fun game that still has a level of competitiveness and works as a great intro game. This is perhaps the simplest game on this list, so if you are looking for a more casual experience then Patchwork is definitely something to check out!

Rivals for Catan
Rivals of Catan takes the basic themes of the classic Catan and repurposes them into a 2 player card game! Reworked from the original Catan Card Game, this version has a less aggressive style of play so is a perfect fit for a table with 2 players. Catan is considered to be the game that launched the modern style of board game and Rivals for Catan takes that same robust mechanical design and scales it down to 2 players. If you want to evoke the feeling of classic Catan this Valentines Day, then this the perfect choice for you!

Imperial Struggle
The game of Imperial Struggle covers over 100 years of war between England and France. The game is not merely about war: both France and Britain must build the foundations of a colonial empire, deal with the other nations of Europe, and compete for glory. This game is a bit more involved than others on the list, so works great for a more competitive couple. We would recommend this game for a couple that aren't afraid of an argument or two at the gaming table!

Unmatched
Unmatched is a highly asymmetrical miniature fighting game for two or four players. Each hero is represented by a unique deck designed to evoke their style and legend. Tactical movement and no-luck combat resolution create a unique play experience that rewards expertise, but just when you've mastered one set, new heroes arrive to provide all new match-ups. The cast of characters available include warriors from myth and folklore such as Beowulf and Robin Hood, as well as modern heroes from Marvel Comics! The strange eclectic match-ups are part of the charm of this miniatures game, so is a great fit for a couple with literary and historical interests!
