August Board Game Picks!

Picking out a new game for game night is always a difficult task! Every gaming group is unique and finding a good fit for your own group is easier said than done! To help you narrow down your choices, we have selected some of our favourite board games, each of which would make for an awesome game night!

Wingspan Wingspan is a competitive, medium-weight, card-driven, engine-building board game from Stonemaier Games. This is a great option for a family game night and is kid-friendly! It is a good fit for 1 - 5 players and takes around an hour to play.

HeroQuest The classic dungeon-delving board game has just received a remake and is packed with awesome miniatures and epic quests! A great option for a group that is looking for a more casual night of fighting monsters and looting chests! The base game supports 2 to 5 players and takes around half an hour to play a quest!

Cloudage CloudAge is a mix of engine-building, deck-building, and resource management. If you want to play something a bit more complicated but aren't too confident, then Cloudage's campaign system is the perfect fix for you! It starts off with a simple version of the rules and slowly introduces more complicated mechanics! I supports 1 - 4 players and takes around 2 hours to play per session.

Gloomhaven - Jaws of the Lion Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion is a standalone game that takes place before the events of Gloomhaven. The game is a more casual version of the regular Gloomhaven game but it is still a step up from other dungeon delving games like HeroQuest! The game is perfect for 2 to 4 players and can take up to 2 or 3 hours to play!

Dale of Merchants 2 Dale of Merchants 2 is a stand-alone expansion to the original Dale of Merchants. The game comes with 6 new and exciting animalfolk decks which, as has become a staple in the series, can be played by themselves or combined with the decks from the other Dale of Merchants games. A great choice for 2 to 4 players the game is relatively quick to play, typically around 30 minutes per session.

Terraforming Mars Terraforming Mars is a highly stylised strategy game and is a perfect example of a modern board game. It is a perfect game for 1 - 5 players and takes 1 to 2 hours to play.

Unmatched Unmatched takes some of your favourite characters from history and fiction and pits them against each other in the ultimate deathmatch! All of the expansions can be used alone or combined to create crazy match-ups. Perfect for 2 players or more, this is definitely one to check out!

Scythe Scythe is a 4X board game set in an alternate-history 1920s period. In the game you play as one of the unique factions. Starting positions and abilities vary wildly from faction to faction so this has a ton of reply value! The game supports up to 5 players and takes around 2 hours to play.
