Halloween - Card Horrors Day 2

If there's two things that we love at Total Cards; they're Halloween and TCGs! That's why we're celebrating the most spooky holiday all week! We are running deals, raffles and even competitions in our very own gaming centre! As part of the week's horror, we thought we'd highlight some of our most dreaded card horrors!! What is a card horror, you may ask!? Card horrors are simply things that go wrong with collectors and players when collecting TCGS! These horror may be accidental and often they are a result of not looking after your cards properly! In this series of posts, we're going to outline some of our most heinous card horrors and give you a way to fix or prevent them!

For Day Two we have decided to highlight the disastrous occasions when you have bent cards! No collector likes to have their cards bent and the mater is made worse when it is a rare or expensive. There are many reasons that a card may turn out bent! Some of these may be out of your control, such as temperature and humidity acting on the card and causing it to curl. Other times, this is preventable and down to poor care and storage of cards. We also find that bending happens more often with foil cards, due to the foiling reacting to heat differently than the rest of the cardboard. The cards that you see in the image are all mostly foil :(

But how do you prevent this? A simple way to protect from bending is to sleeve your cards straight out of the pack. Even a simple soft sleeve offers some protection against temperature changes and humidity as shown in our stress test of Vault X sleeves on our TikTok! A second set would to use stronger and more durable sleeves or even double sleeve your more expensive card, especially if you use them in a deck. Perhaps the best protection is to use a rigid sleeve or top loader. This will keep the card straight and give it no quarter to move at all!

You may ask what to do when a card is already bent!? We would advise a gentle straightening by placing it under a heavy and flat object such as a large book. Even though this may alleviate some minor bending, you may find that it can't cure more severe cases. In this case we recommend using a toploader and keeping it safe from heat and humidity.
