A Closer Look at Lorcana Ursula Returns Starter Decks Amber Amethyst & Sapphire Steel - Total Cards Unboxing Video

Disney Lorcana's upcoming set Ursula's Return is just around the corner, and the lovely folks over at Ravensburger have given us an exclusive first look at the upcoming decks from this set! These decks feature Mirabel & Bruno Madrigal, and Anna & Hercules as we've never seen them before. These decks are focused on the Amber/Amethyst and Steel/Sapphire inks, and will feature 2 guaranteed holos in each deck of the featured characters from the packaging. You can see all of the latest reveals for this set in our Ursula's Revenge card list article. If you haven't already, be sure to check out our YouTube unboxing below, or keep reading for more information!

Overview of Starter Decks: Inside the box you will find a ready-to-play 60 card deck, with two foil cards of the featured characters, along with 11 damage counters, a paper playmat, a paper tracker token, and the game rules for those who have never played before. These decks are perfect for both players new to the game and seasoned veterans looking for specific cards to expand their collection.

Deck Descriptions:

  • Amber Amethyst Deck: The doors of Casa Madrigal are open to all glimmers, and there is so much to learn! From Mirabel Madrigal - Gift of the Family to Bruno Madrigal - Out of the Shadows, every Madrigal has a unique gift. The true miracle, however, comes when they work together - both as a family and as part of your team of Amber and Amethyst glimmers.
  • Sapphire Steel Deck: Heroes from across the realm seek to test their mettle in Thebes! Clever Sapphire glimmers like Anna - True-Hearted make the most of every opportunity, while powerful Steel glimmers like Hercules - Beloved Hero stand strong in a challenge. When this team uses their brains and brawn together, the reward will be even more lore!

Within your Sapphire/Steel deck you will find Anna - True-Hearted, who's ability Let Me Help You allows other Hero characters to get +1 lore for the turn, and Hercules - Beloved Hero has the Bodyguard ability which allows you to play the card onto the field exerted, meaning it is open to attack, but requires your opponent to target Hercules specifically. This means if you have any other exerted cards, they are protected from challenges this turn.

The Sapphire/Steel deck is a great deck for beefing up the playfield in your favour, building on your resources to help sink your teeth into your opponent. With cards that support and boost each other, as well as manipulate how you're using your deck to your advantage, this is a strong deck to get started in the world of Lorcana with.

Inside your Amber/Amethyst deck you will find Mirabel Madrigal - Gift of the Family who has the support ability, meaning if you quest with Mirabel you may add her strength to another character. But not only that, your other Madrigal characters get +1 lore for the turn, which works incredibly well with Bruno featured within this deck.

Speaking of Bruno Madrigal - Out of the Shadows, his ability allows you to give another character on your board a special ability where if they challenge and banished that turn, instead of losing the card it would return to your hand. It's clear that Mirabel and Bruno have a great synergy in this deck, much like in the beloved film Encanto!

This deck is doing what Amber and Amethyst do best, it allows you to flood the playfield with inexpensive cards that are all buffing each other. Alone, they will likely crumble quite quickly, but so long as you get enough cards out there you'll likely find you aren't banishing characters too often and have a consistently strong hand.

Card Highlights:

  • Explore new cards and familiar favourites, including Basil, Aurora, and Prince Philip.
  • Get a glimpse of characters from previous sets, like Mulan, Aladdin, and Rapunzel, alongside newcomers like Augustin and Julieta.
  • Discover unique abilities and mechanics, such as the Shift ability and the Sing Together mechanic, adding depth and strategy to gameplay.

Discussion:

  • Learn about the gameplay changes and updates, including the Shift ability's new mechanics and the introduction of location cards.
  • Discuss the thematic elements and storytelling within the card designs, from iconic Disney characters to new additions from Ursula Returns.
